HBT On the Issues: Jet Noise in Huntington Beach

*This post is part of a series, “HBT On The Issues,” that lets visitors know where HB Tomorrow has stood on specific issues in Huntington Beach. If you would like to know where HB stands on an issue of interest to you, please contact us at info@hbtomorrow.org.

In 2018 many residents began noticing a lot more noise from jet traffic. This was a result of the FAA approving more flights through our city for flights to Long Beach, SNA and LAX. If you are in that half-mile-wide corridor, please join this group: https://stopthejetnoise.com/ You can report planes the same day that you hear flying after 11PM and before 7AM to Long Beach Airport, or if you learn to identify planes bound elsewhere, you can identify where they are going and/or how low it looks like they are flying. LAX planes are supposed to fly at higher elevations.

JetBlue announced in October 2018 that they will retrofit planes to reduce noise over next 2-3 years. There is legislation on FAA that we can ask our senators to support in order to give local government the ability to address jet noise problems. City Council agreed to establish a committee by 2019 on the jet noise issue.
